On February 26, the University of the Philippines Integrated School (UPIS) held a joint flag ceremony in honor of Lord Robert Stephenson Baden-Powell, the founder of the scouting movement.
The program was held at the 7-12 Quadrangle and was organized by the school’s Institutional Scouting Committee (ISCom) and the different scouting units in the school.
A wreath for Robert Baden Powell was laid by Mr. Matthew Arnold Doronila, the chairperson of ISCom, and the school’s principal, Dr. Lorina Y. Calingasan.
During the program, the different scouting units of the school recited their respective scout oaths and a thought for the day was shared by a member from each scouting unit.
Amado C. Dela Cruz Jr., Assistant Scout Executive for Operations of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) Quezon City Council, gave a message for the scouts.
At the end of the program, the school held a minute of silence for the late Renato ‘Atong’ Matias, one of the founders of the Kabalikat Foundation, that supported the school’s scouting movement.
The joint flag ceremony was held to replace the annual Scouts Parade, an event commemorating the founding of the scouting movement usually done at the University of The Philippines (UP) Academic Oval. //by Keio Guzman
