english,
Alex is a happy person, a top student in her school, and has a lot of friends. She’s the go-to person of every student when they need help with their schoolwork, and she always has fun with her friends during break time and after class. She loves her friends so much, which is also why she doesn’t open up about her problems to her friends.
Her problem is that her parents are great entrepreneurs, and they are always busy with work. Alex is always alone inside their house when she gets back from school. She has no one to eat with, or talk to, even when she needs someone to vent to when she has problems. When it comes to her grades, however, her parents are always there—always there to judge her. This time, her father scolded her just because she got a B on her grades.
Alex always tries to look positive when she’s in school, but after what’s been happening between her and her parents, she can’t even smile at the people she passes by like before. She also didn’t get to finish her homework because she doesn’t have any motivation to do it. After class, her friends even ask her if she wants to go to the mall with them, but she refuses and goes straight inside her car quietly.
“It isn’t enough? All that hard work is just trash for you?” She thinks.
She looks outside and says, “This isn’t right.” As she gets home, she packs all of her things, takes her bankbook with her savings, and leaves the house at midnight.
She makes the decision to live without her parents. She’s already eighteen, so she can manage to find a job and live by herself. She also knows that it will be hard for her to handle everything by herself, but with this kind of parents, it’s a no-no for her.
While looking for a condominium to stay in, Alex makes a promise for herself that she will try to be better, not for her parents or for other people, but for herself only; and she will work hard to do the things she wants to do to make herself happy. She will finish college all by herself, without regrets—as long as she is happy.
Russel is now a college student, but his family can’t afford the tuition. His father died because of a heart attack, and his mother, who has asthma, is having a hard time finding a job because she wasn't able to graduate from college.
So, the only thing that Russel can do is to find a job in order to finish college. He’s doing his best to find work, but he's currently facing the same problem as his mother, as he's still an undergraduate.
He’s shown his talent in graphic designing ever since he was in high school, and that’s the course that he wants to take in college. He looks for a job in every company. He chooses all the companies that give a big salary but the only answer that he gets is, “You’re only a high school graduate, we can’t accept you. Just when he lost all hope, his friend tells him to apply for a job online. His face immediately brightens, and he hurries home to use his laptop in order to do as his friend suggested. He makes sure to show his work portfolio on his profile so customers will recognize his works. He then waits all night, but when no customers show up, he decides to rest and wait until the morning.
As soon as he wakes up, Russel hurries to his laptop to check if there’s a customer. He shouts with joy as he sees that there is one who wants him to design a layout for their company, which he makes without hesitation. Upon finishing his work, he sends the design and waits for his client’s response. His customer tells him that they love his work, and pays him a thousand dollars. The customer also wants to hire him whenever their company needs a design or layout. Russel feels so happy, which is why he will continue to search for new clients so he can earn more money for college.
Mariah has been a football player for more than five years now. She started playing when she was in fifth grade. She fell in love with the sport because of her dad, who is also a football player. Her dream has always been to someday play professionally, so she wants to go to a great university that can help her pursue her passion.
To go to a great university, she undergoes a lot of try-outs and exams so that she’ll have lots of university options to choose from. Eventually she gets into a great university that has a great sports and academic program, on a full scholarship. She gets excited when she learns the news, until she finds out there’s a catch—her grades need to be consistently good, so if she gets even one C, she will be expelled.
Because of this, Mariah feels more pressured as she knows that she’s not that good in academics. Despite this, however, she becomes complacent, as she came from a school where teachers give high grades to the athletes who perform well. So, after practice and during class, she would either fall asleep, space out, or just not listen because she's tired.
As time passes by, she’s still complacent and just does whatever she wants to do. But as the card-giving day approaches, she begins to get worried because she might get a C on her grades.
On the card distribution day, her parents get her grades and go straight to the gymnasium to talk to her coach. She feels weird because her parents didn’t even talk to her at first. So, her anxiety starts eating away at her at the thought of getting kicked off the team. This leads her to lose focus on her training, which is why she’s messing up and her teammates are getting mad at her.
When she gets home after practice, her parents talk to her about their earlier discussion with her coach. “Your coach told me that you got a C on your grade,” her father tells her in a sad tone.
She sweats as her father says that.
“Your coach said that he did everything he could for you to stay on the team.” Mariah felt relieved. “But if this happens again, you really will get kicked out. So, I hope this will teach you to be more careful in balancing your academics and sports.” Her mother says.
Mariah then has some realizations in her room after all of what she heard earlier. She wants to become more responsible in her academics so she can achieve her dreams. Thus, over the next few months and eventually years, she tries to listen to the lectures, practices hard, passes the required grade that she had to pass, and gains trustworthy friends. She then plays at the national level and successfully graduates college with high grades, and soon after, a lot of coaches started to recruit her because of her skills. All of her hard work is finally beginning to pay off because she knows that this is what she wants to do. She also made a promise to herself that she will work harder for her to achieve her dreams.
Everything happens for a reason. Everything will go your way if you work hard on what you want to do. So dream big! Learn from your mistakes and do better.
Life is fun and worth living, but you should know that you will not always be happy on the path that you are taking. Sometimes life will give you a hard time but you’re not going to move forward or learn from it if you’re not going to do anything about the problem that you’re facing.
Alex struggled but with her strong mind and her love for herself, she became stronger and went another path without knowing what’s waiting for her at the end because she knows that she’s strong and she wants a life that no one but herself will control.
Russel loses hope, but he doesn’t know that his time will come. He hurriedly looked for jobs because he needed to give his mother a better life. He eventually found one that can help his family. You may not know what life has planned or if it is planned for you but still, work hard because life will give you a bigger chance to get what you need.
Mariah did really become complacent at first and got scared that she will lose what she is passionate about. You should continue to work hard if life gives you a chance to prove that you deserve it.
Do everything you can to have a happy life. Work hard for it so when your time comes, you can say that,
