UPIS Track and Field (TnF) is ready and eager to reclaim a spot in the podium in their upcoming University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 80 campaign.
No Excuses
According to UPIS TnF team captain Reinard Grimaldo, they kept training even over the holiday break and right after Christmas. He also stated that they made the most out of every training session so that they will be conditioned both physically and mentally.
Additionally, right from the start of their training for the season, their coaches made it their top priority to keep their athletes disciplined in training.
Hearts Out
Grimaldo expressed that he expects everyone in the team to give their best in every event that they will participate in. “Inaasahan ko na maganda ‘yung maipapakita ng buong team sa UAAP, syempre inaasahan ko ring ibibigay ng bawat isa ‘yung kaya nila para sa team kasi pinaghirapan namin ‘to, nag training kami para sa laro na‘to.”
One of the fresh faces who will be making her first appearance in the UAAP with the UPIS TnF team is Jana Neri, who will partake in the 2k walk. “Pressured po kasi first time ko pong sasali sa UAAP pero excited at the same time kasi mukhang mas malaki yung chance namin ngayon na mag-podium. Yung mindset namin, maka-podium ulit and ‘di na maulit yung mga pagkakamali last year,” she said.
Meanwhile, competing for the second consecutive year is Bea Jacinto. “Syempre kinakabahan. Buong year kami nagtraining para dito tapos kailangan talaga ibigay yung lahat, para worth it yung ginagawa para dun. Excited din! Last year sobrang saya nung UAAP kasi mas nakilala ko yung teammates ko at sport na sinalihan ko, so excited na ko maexperience ulit,” she shared. She also said that the team’s mindset is simply to do their best. They might be competing individually at some events, but it all still boils down to the team’s score as a whole to make their way back in the podium.
Despite last year’s 4th place finish, the team’s goal this season is to reclaim a place again on the podium. Individually, they promise to perform with their hearts out to contribute to the team’s points and raise their team’s overall ranking.
