feature,
Have you ever run out of things to do during your free time? Or you’ve got a lot of free time but don’t know what do with it? Worry not!
I asked my friends and classmates how they make their free time worthwhile and now, I present to you their answers through a list of productive things you can do:
1. Mix and Match
Grab your apron and pans! Try cooking this weekend or when you get the chance. You don’t have to be a great cook, just look up the recipe on the internet or watch some BuzzFeedTasty videos for some inspiration. Don’t be afraid to experiment and mix and match ingredients. You never know, you might be the next Gordon Ramsay.
Check out BuzzFeed Tasty on their website: https://tasty.co/
2. Start Early
No matter how cramulous (adj. to fabulously cram requirements) you are, time is crucial for a student; therefore, one must use their time wisely. Start researching for your group work, create visual aids, or finish your homework at school so you won’t have to do it at home, which means more free time! This is also the best way to avoid cramming your requirements. Plus you might get some bonus points!
3. Food Trip
You’re stressed, check. You’re tired, check. You want a break from all the accumulated stresses from school, check. Well, here’s a good solution for you.
FOOD!
There’s no better way than to spend it on good food, especially if it’s ‘sulit’ and affordable for you and your barkada. It’s also a good way to de-stress your mind, body and soul plus you get to spend time with your friends, win-win right? So, grab your friends and eat, eat, eat! But remember too much is also bad for your health. Eat in moderation!
4. Shake it Off
Exercising is also a great thing to do during your free time. This helps the body regain strength and gives you more energy. Exercising regularly will promote the growth of new brain cells which help boost memory and learning. But, since students rarely get free time, here’s an example of simple and quick exercises.
Stretching keeps your body flexible and your muscles healthy, it is meant to ease up the muscles before starting any exercise.
Walking is the most basic exercise you can do. There is no need for gym equipment, just a pair of handy shoes and exercise clothes and you’re ready to go!
You can even try running, if you want to take the walking up a notch. This activity strengthens your legs and knees.
Squats can also be a good example of a simple exercise you can try. They help make your hips flexible and lessens the risk of having lower back injuries. Plus it also tones your thighs!
If the suggested exercises above still won’t work for you, you can check the photo below (It’s useful especially for those who sit all day!)
5. Recharge Batteries
This is for students who lack sleep or 99.99% of the student population who spent the whole night doing requirements. Taking naps during your free time is really beneficial to the body. A 10 to 15 minute nap can help improve energy, alertness, and performance in school. (Hint: You can do this during lunch time. Just set an alarm or ask a friend to wake you up!) This also allows you to prepare for the next subject and for sure, you won’t get caught in class sleeping!
6. Hit The Books
Not literally hit your books, but to prepare for your class by reviewing notes from the previous day. This helps jog your memory so you won’t be “sabaw” in class. Read through your notes and highlight important points. You can also try putting sticky notes with things to remember about the page you are reviewing.
If you’re the type who likes hearing the right set of notes to help your brain concentrate, play two hours of piano music on Youtube. (You can check out these channels: H4Happiness, YellowBrickCinema and The Soul of Wind.) But if you’re the type that needs lyrics to sings along to, you can check out Your Favorite Coffeehouse, Soft Pop Hits or OPM Favorites.
At the end of the day, we students barely get free time. Be thankful for every second, minute and hours for it. How you spend it really helps on a daily basis, treasure it and spend it wisely! Remember, time waits for no one it is precious and one mustn’t let it slip through its fingers. So what are you waiting for? Start being productive now! //by Vea Dacumos
