The Alternative Classroom Learning Experience (ACLE) was held at the University of the Philippines Integrated School (UPIS) on February 14.

ACLE was held during the UPIS Days celebration to broaden students’ knowledge and skills about topics that they may find fun and interesting. The various sessions aim to give students different opportunities to learn unfamiliar things that can widen and deepen their curiosities. Different sets of ACLE sessions were prepared for Grades 7-12, 3-6 and K-2.

The ACLE sessions for the Grades 7-12 students were Robotics, Basic Theatre Arts, Photography, Mandarin, Comics Drawing, Classical Drawing, Make-up Tutorial, Fashion Illustration, Journalism, Paper Quilling, French, Italian, Watercolor Lettering, Architecture, Paper Cutting, Digital Media, Social Dance, and Street Dance.

As for the Grades 3-6 students, their ACLE sessions were Acrylic Painting, Aikido, Anime Drawing, Astronomy, Calligraphy, Cupcake Decoration, Guitar Lesson, Hip-Hop Dance, Italian Language, Singing, Spanish, Story Telling and Writing.

The ACLE sessions for K-2 students were all about arts and crafts making. They “planted” edible plants. Other ACLE sessions were Blow and Pop in which they blew bubbles with different colors.. Another one is Spin it to Win Eat, where they made colorful pandesals and fidget spinners. They also had Colorful Valentines, where students made Valentine Cards and handkerchiefs. Then there was Color Eat, a Graham Ball making class and lastly, there was Slime Time in which students made slime.

“It’s something we really appreciate kasi we get to do what we love and learn stuff aside from the lessons in our regular classes,” said Pauline Geronimo, a Grade 8 student who attended the Make-up Tutorial session.

“Hindi na ako kinabahan kasi second time ko na magturo sa mga bata. Kahit nakaka-stress dahil napaka-ingay nila, nag-enjoy pa rin ako dahil nakikita ko silang masaya habang sumasayaw," 11th grader Yumi Dela Torre shared, who taught Hip-Hop Dance to 3-6 students.

This was the second consecutive year that the ACLE became part of the UPIS Days celebration since its absence during the AY 2015-2016.//by Storm Gatchalian and Alex Yangco
