MC 2020 and 2021 join Elevate 8

UPIS students participated in Elevate 8: Midyang Mapagpalaya, a journalism writing competition held at the UPIS Auditorium last November 16.
The competition was hosted by the UP Radio Circle with the purpose of educating, informing, and honing aspiring young journalists. This event also aims to prevent the spread of fake news, misinformation, and attacks against the press. Schools from all around Luzon participated; two from Region II, two from Region III, eight from Region IV-A, one from Region V, and 14 from NCR, including UPIS.
UPIS was represented by James Tolosa, Owen Bernos, Gabe Ulanday, Cynl Tecson, and Aldric De Ocampo of 12-Katatagan and Lester Amurao, Addie Sajise, Alyssa Avila, Pam Marquez, Magan Basilio, Justin Polendey, and Therese Aragon of 11-Barros.
Before the competition, workshops in sports writing, editorial writing, cartooning, health and science article writing, layouting, feature writing, radio broadcasting, and photojournalism were also held to prepare the participants for the competition afterwards.
Despite not having placed on the overall championship, the UPIS students learned a lot and gained new experiences from the workshops held. //by Ria Amano
