UPIS representatives brought home awards from the Metrobank – Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines (MTAP) – Department of Education (DepEd) Math Challenge (MMC) 2017.
Sophomore Marius Barcenas placed third in the Regional Finals while Grade 1 student Andrei Vibal placed fifth. The Grades 2 and 6 teams qualified for the Regional Finals of the team competition.
MMC is an annual math contest for elementary and high school students in both public and private schools nationwide. The contest consists of the Elimination Round, Individual Finals, Division/Area Finals, Sectoral Finals, Regional Finals, and National Finals for both the individual and team competitions. This year’s competition was held from February to March, while the Nationals will be held on April 21 and 22.
Sean Caleb Sanguyu from Grade 1 placed tenth at the sectoral finals of the individual competition while other participants for the individual competition received honors in the elimination round. The teams from Grades 2, 5, 6, 8, and 9 also went on to compete in the Sectorals last March 24. Other UPIS teams reached the Area Finals. //by Trisa de Ocampo and Beca Sinchongco
