I’m bad at numbers—terrible, actually, but there’s something about them that makes me remember the important things.

Things like:
The 525,600 minutes in a year,
The 8 hours of sleep I need,
The 3 hours of sleep I actually get,

The 26 letters of the alphabet,
The 1000 words I need for an essay,
The amount of cash in my wallet: 0,
The 647 pages of my book,

The 2 ½ cups of flour needed for my mother’s cookie recipe,

(And 47 of them are about her)
1:06, the chorus of her favorite song,

The 596 photos on my camera roll,
The 280 pesos we both paid to see Beauty and the Beast,
The 3 texts from her at 3AM,
The 13.3 kilometers from her place to mine,
Our 500 hours of Skype calls,
The 3 planned trips that stayed on paper,
Those 2 misunderstandings,
That 1 night,
