The program aims to promote globalized leaders through social awareness, proficiency in communication, and competent problem-solving skills. The visit was part of the students’ 4-day stay in the Philippines from November 6-10.
The Japanese students were partnered with Grade 10 UPIS students Anton Almira, Alex Arugay, Ron Castro, Ivan Cunanan, Jarod de Luna, and Bianca Morales during their stay at UPIS. In order for them to gain an understanding of Filipino life, they took part in a homestay program in their partner’s home in the course of their visit to UPIS.
They also joined in some of their partner’s regular and NSTP classes and engaged in a discussion on the cultures of the Philippines and Japan and issues on education and poverty which the two countries face. The students were also toured around the campus of UP Diliman.
UPIS counterparts of the Japanese students were selected through an interview by a committee headed by Prof. Czarina Agcaoili, the head of the UPIS Social Studies Department. //by Chesca Santiago
