University of the Philippines Integrated School (UPIS) Grade 11 students joined this year’s career trip last October 15 and 22 in Laguna.

This annual event aims to help students choose their desired career paths and to introduce them in several work experiences.

Last October 15, the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) and Business and Entrepreneurship (BE) tracks held their career trip together. Both strands had the same itinerary, specifically in Lumban, Paete, and Pagsanjan Laguna, but each focused on their own track’s aspects.

Both classes also went to Pagsanjan Church, St. James the Apostle Church, and Lumban Church to gain more knowledge about the history of the places and to learn about their art pieces.

Students were also briefed on how the products of Laguna are exported to different locations in the Philippines. They also visited a site that promotes and sells native garments such as barong and wood carving products.

On the other hand, the Applied Sciences and Engineering (ASE) track held their trip last October 22 in Los Baños and Biñan, Laguna. The students visited the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) campus, wherein they learned about biotechnology and agriculture.

After visiting the UPLB, the ASE track visited the DESCO Incorporated, a drilling company in Biñan, Laguna. Careers specializing in engineering were also discussed to the students.

“Overall interesting siya for me. It was very nice and enlightening to see how things are at Laguna and what they do for living.” said Aldric De Ocampo, SSH student, on his experience towards the trip.//by Gian Palomeno
