The UPIS Varsity Swimming Team (VST) will leave tomorrow to compete in the UAAP Season 74 swimming competition to be held at Trace College Los Banos, Laguna on September 22-25.

College and high school swimmers from different schools like Ateneo, UST, La Salle, and UE will participate in the Backstroke, Freestyle, Butterfly, Relay, and Individual Medley events, among others.

Senior April de Castro, team captain of the UPIS VST, said that this is really important to her and the rest of the team.

Everyday, they stay until 9 pm to finish the given work out. They spend a lot of time training so they go all out and make sure to put in hard work and give their best. Coach Bernie, the team's long-time mentor, is always there to support and assist all his swimmers.

The UPIS VST is also all set to break records just like what Joy Rodgers did last year.

On September 24, 2010, Rodgers, then a first-time participant, finished the 50m Breast Stroke event in 35.88 seconds to bag a gold medal and break the previous record of 35.93 established by Filipina olympian Jenny Guerrero in 1999.
