Literary: Wait for Her

She defeats monsters
That wait for her to sleep at night
She battles the sweet, cold slumber
That grips and smothers her tight

She fights hard
And sometimes without armor
Faced death and stared into its eyes
With only her heart to give her power

And when mornings come, she's already weary
Like a warrior tired of bloodshed
And she doesn't know how much further she'll go
Because the day has only started

She'd drink a cup of her favorite coffee
To wake herself up from inside out
With fresh wounds all over her body
She's still uncertain and filled with doubt

"Am I ready to wage the battle of today?
Or is it better for me to remain
And wait for the nights unveil?"

Her head was always filled
With this same thought everyday
But she always picked the right choice
At the right moment
Of choosing to stay

Because she doesn't want to say goodbye
To the universe yet
Without leaving something amazing for the world
Which is something that she strongly covets

So for the meantime
She's still healing and struggling in the battle
That takes place in her head
And slowly, into her soul

And I hope that someday
I'll be able to see her
Across me at the table
Just in time for dinner
