bts,BTS: Dear MC2018
To our dearest MC2018,
We planned to write this piece over a month ago. Yet, here we are, hours before publishing time with the words still swimming aimlessly in our heads.
Between the two of us, we have quite a lot to say but it was difficult putting them together because… what else do we say and how else do we say it to you whom we have closely worked with for a good part of three years (some weekends and holidays included)?
However, looking back, we realized that there are still some unsaid—those which we have always known but were probably not able to say or were likely lost amidst the intensive and extensive MC workload.
So allow us to tell you these three things:
First, we appreciate you. More than you know.
We applaud your grit and determination—how you took on every single challenge thrown at you in stride and finished with flying colors.
We are in awe of your creativity and imagination—how you turn ideas into words and visuals that strike a nerve or touch the heart or warm the soul.
We admire your ability to adapt and your willingness to serve—how you wholeheartedly dedicated yourselves and your time to work, often without expecting anything in return.
Second, we are proud of you. Always have been, always will be.
We are proud of how much you have grown, not just as writers behind the pen names you wield every publishing night but as young men and women who have good style and incredible work ethic.
We are proud of how much you have come together as a group—from two or three big ones that look at MC and Ang Aninag as mere school requirements to one big solid well-oiled machine fueled by passion and purpose.
Some think what we do is all work. Well, in a way, it is for it demands so much from everyone involved. Some think it is just fun, that words come easy, that there are no serious chops required. Sometimes, it is but as we always say, the MC experience is only as fun as you make it to be. And you certainly made it so, not only for the readers but even more so for yourselves and for us, too.
It is no easy feat to handle the school paper in one semester let alone three straight years.
You’ve done it and oh my, have you done it well!
Hold your head high. Bask in the glory. Sit back and watch your legacy.
Let it sink in. You deserve it.
Last, we thank you. Very much.
For sharing the best parts of you in the poems and stories you told.
For teaching us as much as, if not more than, what we have taught you.
For choosing MC and for loving it as much as we do.
As we end this piece, we vividly remember that warm June day in 2015 during Peryodismo class when you confusedly yet excitedly took a leap of faith with us.
We dubbed you our ‘Lucky 9th’ and, in so many ways, through all the ups and downs, we are truly privileged to have been your guides on this unforgettable journey.
A lot has changed since that first day.
But a lot has also remained the same.
It will be a while before our next and we are and will always be beyond grateful that you’re the last editorial staff we have taken on this rollercoaster MC ride.
We LoveMC you, MC2018!
On to the next chapter!
Always,
Mami Cat and Mama Weng

feature,Feature: Ang D. Naquita
“Nakakasindak pero nakakatuwa rin naman at the same time.
Strikto man, isa siyang mapagmahal na guro

The Ma’am Cathy inside UPIS has a different persona from Ma’am Cathy on social media sites, especially on Twitter. At school, all she can think about is work, work, work and that includes editing this article. While on Twitter, other than promoting Ang Aninag Online and being a proud teacher, adviser, and “Mami” to her students, the user @lyraharaya uses Twitter to express her emotions, thoughts, and feelings on the daily hustles and bustles of life. Here she can be mad, sad, happy, excited, exhausted, and be a little savage like any other Twitter user.
Ma’am Cathy Atordido (@lyraharaya), an English teacher for 11 years and counting and one of the learning cooordinators of MC 2018, is one active and internet-savvy Twitter user. Here are some relatable tweets that made us realize that she’s one of us.
1. When she defended the stress of people around the world. If students, have too many projects to do, think about how many papers that teachers need to check! Don’t even try to invalidate the stress levels of a teacher.
2. When she needed to push her limits all for the love of literature, K-Dramas, and sleep. For her, work must always come first before she enjoys her most deserved rewards.
3. When she spent the ASEAN week binge watching K-Dramas with no regrets. As like what people say, time you enjoyed wasting is not wasted time.
4. When she was so happy for her kumareng Song Hye Kyo and kumpareng Song Joong Ki after the #SongSongCouple wedding.
5. When she shows her love and support for basketball. She’s a big fan of the sport (don’t even get me started about her love for the Gin Kings) and sometimes loses her chill while watching the game.

7. When not even the twiter account of the Media Center itself was spared. She has no patience for errata and the like and wish for those to be dealt with as soon as possible.
8. When she put arrogance in its place. Don’t even think of starting a keyboard fight against an English teacher if you haven’t even mastered basic subject-verb agreement.
9. When she shows her belief in the powers of the universe. Students of Ma’am Cathy know about her fervent trust on destiny and fate, even having a jar used for “group-making” purposes aptly named “Universe”.
10. When she does what she does best, being a supportive and relateable “Mami.” Wise words from Ma’am Cathy that we should never forget:

english,Literary: Thank You
We narrated history
With a canvas now full
And brushes worn from use.
Tonight, I write knowing that we are leaving
A world we brought color to.
We scribbled verses
With the wisdom of late-night musings
And early morning revelations.
Tonight, I write knowing that we have bared
A part of our souls for those who wish to see.
We told tales
With heavy hearts
And romance in our words.
Tonight, I write knowing that we welcome
A chorus of new voices to continue the legends.
We wove stories
With the fabric of old memories
And thoughts we wished we could leave behind.
Tonight, I write knowing that we now begin
A journey we cannot take together.
We leave memoirs
With pains we have revised
And joys we have learned to share.
Tonight, I write knowing that thanks are in order for
A story we could not have completed without you.
Thank you

Through every word you have read.

For helping us leave

english,Literary: Beyond the Horizon
Two nights before the expedition
Three giant ships waited on the shore
A hundred and eight passengers had to choose which one to travel with
Everyone had their bags packed and tickets ready
I, on the other hand, was still undecided
The night the boats had to leave soon came
Everyone was at the pier, lined up and waiting
The sun was setting and the winds were blowing
The time has come and I had to settle on a decision
Then it hit me! This is not what I want!
I went up to the captain and asked if they could still accommodate one more
She gladly accepted
We were handed the map and the compass
Given charge of the wheel
And we did a pretty good job
And now this ship is about to be docked once more
Despite the enormous waves, strong winds, thick fogs, and heavy rains
We have reached our destination
The travel was delightful, exhausting, and fulfilling
To the next ones boarding this ship
Follow the stars
And
Go beyond the horizon

To the next ones boarding this ship
Follow the stars
And
Go beyond the horizon

“To those I have written with.”
Rest assured
That each and every one of your works
And all that come with them
All the pain
All the joy
Has forever touched at least one heart
Mine.
Every name
You have used
As a mask
To show everyone
Who you truly are
Will always be etched in my mind
For you have truly left a mark on this world
To all those whose words
I have
Misread
Misunderstood
Mistreated
I humbly ask
For your utmost forgiveness
For I have stained such priceless works
And still
I urge you
All of you
To keep pouring your hearts
Into the ink
Of the letters
In the words
Of works
Of art
barcode,Literary: Kapag Nasa Dulo Na
Kapag nasa dulo ka na
Mararamdaman mo lahat
Kaya susubukan mong ulitin lahat

Upang isuko
Ang mga salita
Na bumuhay sa aking persona
Sa tuwing hawak itong pluma
Bilang isang manunulat.
Humahabi ng mga salita
Bumibigkas ng mga katagang
Hindi pa nadirinig.
O napakikinggan.
Ito na ang huling lagda
Gamit itong pluma;
Salamat, salamat.
Ito na ang huling akda
Nitong pluma
At ako ay handa na.
Handang
Magparaya,
Ng mga salita.
Kaya't sige-
Lumaya ka;
Lumaya.

emanon,Literary: Huling Tulang Isusulat Para Sa Iyo
Nagsawa--
Nitong pag-iibigan natin--
Natin--
Nakakatawang isipin,
Punit-punit,
Halatang walang pag-asang mapagkabit-kabit.
Habang ikaw--
Ikaw--
Na nasalba mula sa pagkaligaw
Dulot ng naudlot na istorya nating dalawa.
Ikaw na masaya, maligaya
Ngayon, sa piling ng iba.
Habang ako,
Ako na naghahanap ng magliligtas,
Ako na naghahanap pa rin ng wakas
Sa libro nitong pag-iibigan nating
Iniwan mong bukas--
Bukas--
Akin--
Wala na nga palang akin.
Ano pa ang ipinaglalaban,
Ipinagsisigawan,
Ng mga damdaming lipas na ang hangarin.
Siguro'y panahon na para hayaan
Na ako na lamang mag-isa
Ang magwakas,
Ang sa akdang ito'y magsara
Dahil bumalik ka man,
Hindi naman na maayos pa
Ang isang librong sirang-sira--
Sira--
Heto ngayon ako, sira
Subalit sa pagdedesisyong
Bumitaw na at maging malaya,
Muli akong babangon
Mula sa aking pagkadapa.
Bubuo ako ng bagong istorya.
Tatalikuran na ang mga pirasong pilit inayos.
At kung sakali mang iyong balikan
Itong kuwentong nauna mo nang lisan,
Sa mga dulong pahina,
Ang tulang ito'y aking iiwan--
Iiwan--
Isang tula mula sa taong iyong iniwan,
Isang tulang sa lahat ay magwawakas,
Isang tulang magsisilbing pahimakas.
Napagod na ako't tuluyang natuto.
Kaya dito,
Sa aking tuluyang pag-alpas,
Nais kong malaman mo,
Ito na ang huling tulang isinulat ko
Para sa iyo.
