Lights once again dazzled the university during the UP Lantern Parade held last December 13, 2019. The theme, Pumailanlang, encouraged people to soar and surpass the adversities we face as a nation.

While the community celebrated with glistening floats and lanterns, we roved around the campus to capture the radiance of the people in their most candid moments.

SOAR. Two kids raise their toy birds to the sky.

A HERO’S SPEECH. Clad in superhero garb, Zorro gives out a heroic speech in front of the Oblation before the parade starts.

ADORNED WITH BIRDS. Two men add final touches to the top of the jeepney float of the UP Alumni Association with bird-like figures.

ONWARD. Together with two children, a participant from the UP Diliman Administration pushes their float.

SAVE OUR SCHOOLS! Students from UP School of Statistics carry placards promoting Lumad education and welfare.

UP FIGHT! UP Pep Squad drummers thump the iconic UP beats on their snares.

UPIS FIGHT! Mounted on a pick-up truck, UP Integrated School (UPIS) Pep Squad drummers also beat out classic UP cheers.

BUY OUR LIGHTS. Vendors sell twinkling toys and headdresses on the sidewalk.

MABUHAY! A kulintang ensemble stationed at Rizal Hall greets the UP offices and colleges as they pass by.

ASTOUNDED. People watch the parade in awe on the steps to Palma Hall.

THE ICONS JOIN. An online payment app’s group of mascots dons maroon headbands and join the parade.

CLIMATE JUSTICE NOW! Placards from the Youth Advocates for Climate Action in the Philippines (YACAP) glow as they forward environmental advocacies.

END THE VIOLENCE! UP Babaylan makes a stand against all forms of violence in The Handmaid’s Tale-inspired outfits.

CAPTURE THE SHOW. A cameraman captures the UP offices and colleges as they present themselves.

GRACEFULNESS. Dancers from UPIS give chilling performance in the Quezon Hall amphitheater to present the school's lantern.

GROWTH OF WISDOM. People from UPIS, representing the College of Education and National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education Development, parade their float resembling a tree growing out of a book.
