The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 82 isn’t finished yet for the junior basketball teams.
Last Sunday, the Junior Maroons and Junior Archers went face to face at the Filoil Flying V Centre Arena in San Juan, Metro Manila, where the Junior Archers held on to the winner title, 94-81.
The Junior Maroons owned the first quarter with the help of Jordi Gomez De Liaño who made three 3-point shots, ending the first quarter with a score of 13-23, in favor of UPIS.
During the second quarter, Ray Torres shot back-to-back 3-point shots with Collin Dimaculangan and Gomez De Liaño also bagging 3-point shots. UPIS was still in the lead with the scores at 42-45.
But after the change of courts, the Junior Maroons failed to maintain the lead and were overpowered by the Junior Archers. The Junior Archers gained points faster by passing the ball to their best players, Kean Baclaan and John Quimado, bringing the scoreboard's favor to their team, 70-64.
The Junior Archers triumphed with a score of 94-81.
“It’s great playing for the number one school in the Philippines. I think we need to improve mentally and to stay in shape,” said Torres when asked about his experience during the game and the team’s errors.
Due to the postponement of the games last January 15, the Junior Maroons’ next chance to claim their first win of the tournament will be on January 19, Sunday, against the University of Santo Tomas at the Filoil Flying V Center Arena.
