The Jr. Maroons started with a 7-0 run headed by athletic big men, Freddy Pajarillaga and Gelo Sablan. Claret was held scoreless by the Maroons' tenacious defense until the 7 minute mark but it bounced back with a run of their own, ending the quarter 11-9.
UPIS continued its hard-nosed team defense which led to easy scoring opportunities and fast break points to record an 18 point lead halfway through the 3rd quarter. Claret forced some UPIS turnovers and trimmed the lead, 38-26.
UPIS was still in control of the game until the last 5 minutes but Claret got back by hitting back-to-back threes.
