UPIS lost its second UAAP game against the Ateneo Blue Eaglets, 92-75, last July 22 at the MOA Arena in Pasay.
It was all Ateneo from the get-go as they blasted to an 8-0 lead at the start of the game. UPIS point guard Aaron Lina headed a mini-run with a spin-move lay-up and a couple of assists to tie the ballgame at 12-apiece with 3 minutes left in the first quarter.
But the Eaglets forced consecutive turnovers and scored on fastbreaks to up their lead by 12 at the end of the first canto, 27-15.
With Ateneo’s stellar defense, UPIS continued to struggle and was trailing by 19 at halftime, 49-30.
Ateneo led by as much as 30 points with 6 minutes left in the ballgame. The Junior Maroons tried to trim the lead with a 21-4 run, sparked by back-to-back treys from Diego Dario but there is no stopping the Eaglets from scoring their first win. ● by Dara Lilang and Trizia Badong
