UPIS helps Tacloban students

After super typhoon Yolanda destroyed most of the houses, buildings, roads, and sources of livelihood in Tacloban, Leyte, students from the area still showed their willingness to continue schooling and receiving proper education.

UPIS is one of the institutions which offered these students the chance to attend classes as temporary or sit-in students.

Isabella P. Naputo, a senior from St. Therese Educational Foundation of Tacloban Inc. (STEFTI), is one of three students who took this opportunity.

"Nalaman ko sa kapatid kong nag-aaral sa UP na pwedeng mag-sit-in dito sa UPIS," said Isabella. She was then asked to submit a letter of intent indicating her request to be a sit-in student.

When asked of her expectations on UPIS and its educational system, Isabella answered, "Sa totoo lang, inexpect ko na parang Philippine Science ang UPIS. Pareho lang ng quality of education. Mabilis natuturo at mas maaga nagtatapos ang klase."

She also said that her first impression of UPIS is that students and teachers are very welcoming. "Maganda ang building," she added.

She will only finish the third quarter of this school year to receive a certificate stating that she attended classes at UPIS. She will go back to Tacloban on the last week of January in time for the resumption of classes in February.

"Babalik pa rin ako sa STEFTI dahil doon ako lumaki," she shared. / by Angelique Liwag and Vinz Villanueva
