english,
We often categorize life as something really challenging and largely confusing. Often, we have a hard time translating what we think of the world into words. Luckily, Marina and the Diamonds is there to help us out.
Marina and the Diamonds, also known as Marina Diamandis, is a Welsh singer and songwriter. Her first album is The Family Jewels, released February 2010.
When Marina was asked about this, she explained, “(It’s) a body of work largely inspired by the seduction of commercialism, modern social values and female sexuality.” And with her songs like: Girls, Oh No!, Obsessions, Hollywood and I am Not a Robot, she’s obviously not lying.
Hugh Montgomery of Q Magazine noted that her musical style ranged from, “glam-disco ('Shampain') and bubblegum punk ('Girls') to quavering piano laments ('Obsessions') and cabaret ditties ('Hermit The Frog').” Others may classify Marina’s style as “really weird” but Marina admits her album is mostly composed of a lot of experimental stuff. “It's basically an album about what not to be,” she said in an interview.
UPIS and Marina
A few students were asked about what they thought regarding Marina and her album. A number said that The Family Jewels, despite being her first album, was a very good one.
"Exceptional and unique," Jibreel Fernandez of 10-Narra said. Bea Cao of the same section also said that, "Kahit 'yon ang first album niya napapakita pa rin talent niya as much as the second."
Other students say they prefer The Family Jewels over her second album Electra Heart, "I like The Family Jewels better because it contains songs about life instead of just love songs," Claire Diaz of 10 -Ipil said.
Although the students have different opinions, they all agree that Marina and the Diamonds is an artist worth listening to. / by Red Rivera
