The UP Junior Fighting Maroons lost to the UST Tiger Cubs, 67-61 and 60-58, in their first and second round games at the Blue Eagle Gym last June 30 and August 13.
In their first meeting, the Junior Maroons were able to close the gap after Diego Dario’s 3-point shot in the third quarter, 42-41, but failed to grab the lead in the entire game.
The Junior Maroons kept the game close behind the efforts of Jozhua General and Kim Cinco who finished as the team’s top scorers with 15 and 24 points respectively.
In their second round face-off, UPIS led by 6 at the end of the first half, 32-26, and by 3, 47-44, at the end of the 3rd quarter but UST capitalized on UPIS’ turnovers and outscored the Maroons in the second half.
Gelo Sablan finished with 15 points and Paolo Ancheta added 11 to lead all UPIS scorers. –CC, with reports from Anna Angala, Justin Dungo, Nadine Maximo
