Literary: Ako'y Ngingiti





Sa bawat luhang papatak,
bawat laway na tatalsik,
bawat pawis na tatagaktak,
bawat uhog na titilamsik,
ako'y ngingiti.

Sa bawat pagsubok na haharapin,
bawat maanghang na salitang iindahin,
bawat madilim na daang tatahakin,
bawat daluyong na susuungin,
ako'y ngingiti.

Sa bawat oras na ako'y magkakamali,
bawat pagkakataong ako'y mahuhuli,
bawat panahong ako'y mapupundi,
bawat sandaling ako'y balot ng dumi,
ako'y ngingiti.

Sa bawat pagsambit ng "Suko na ako,"
bawat "Puwede bang itigil na 'to?"
bawat "Ayoko na sa mundo,"
bawat "'Di ko na kaya ang kalbaryo,"
ako'y ngingiti.

Dahil kung ang ngiting ito
ang rason ng iba upang sila'y manatili,
ipagkakait ko ba
ang sandaling pagkurba ng aking mga labi?

Miting de avance for PKA candidates held

The Miting de Avance for the Pamunuan ng Kamag-Aral (PKA) 7-12 candidates was held last Tuesday, April 24 at the UPIS 7-12 Gymnasium.

Led by the Senior Council (SC), the meeting aims to introduce those running for positions in the PKA to the student body. It also serves as a forum in which parties can introduce their platforms and where the electorate can ask candidates questions.

This year, KAanib was the sole party running for the PKA. Their slate included Magan Basilio for president, Danie Cabrera for vice president, Bree Catibog for secretary, Robert Ambat for treasurer, Pam Marquez for assistant treasurer, Gabe Matias for auditor, Rafael Alcazar for business manager, Warrick Castillo for public relations officer, and Romi Okada and Achilles De Leon for marshalls.

Their platform centred on student participation, involvement, and unity.

They sought to promote these through proposed new activities and programs such as K-Aid, the Idea Box, and a mental health week.

K-Aid allows students to volunteer to help the PKA with school activities. This is in accordance with the Aktibo part of their platform wherein they seek to encourage the students to be more involved in school matters.

The Idea Box, meanwhile, gives students a way to put forward suggestions regarding school matters. This also aims to improve the communication between different sectors in school.

The Mental Health Week will focus on improving students’ mental and emotional health as well as educating them on issues regarding these.

After the platform presentation, the audience were given a chance to ask candidates questions.

Starlit Questions

We stand underneath the stars that can't be seen
and trees that gently follow the midnight's breeze
and we laugh at what we think the world could mean
and the moments we have, this night, we seem to seize

I laugh at things that you would say and do
and you tell me that you think this is true
and I want to believe my future is with you
hoping every moment will seem new

You look at me, smiling, yet staring intensely
and I look away, afraid of what I see
since in my mind are thoughts that you will stay right here with me
and feelings growing more immensely

You fill my nights with endless thought and wonder
within the words you send of black and gray
yet with these loving words, I seem to ponder
if tomorrow, will you be here to truly stay?




Moonlit Answers

Amidst this dark road, under the milky moonlight
We pondered where the stars might have gone beyond our sight
Wishing we could see them right now under this black night
A moment between us I thought just felt truly right

In the middle of the dark where the light doesn’t reach
We intertwined our hands, every finger soft as peach
Holding you tightly, as if the world is within my reach
Here we don’t need words, we don’t need any speech

Every moment of this, I can’t help but keep smiling
Each time I look at you, I can’t help but keep falling
Even as your eyes reflect all of your worrying
I know I’ll stay here, never ever leaving

No matter how many sad and sorrowful nights that passes by,
I’ll stay for those happy moments, even if they’re few
Even as the sky turns red and the big world turns blue
Forever and ever, I’ll stay here and be with you
