UPIS Scouts hold Annual Camp 2014

The UPIS Senior Boy (BSP) and Girl (GSP) Scouts took part in their yearly outdoor camp from January 30 to February 3 at different camping venues in Batangas.

The BSP Phoenix and GSP Cadets facilitated their respective camps. The GSP camping consisted of trekking, a cook-out, campfire, and various team building activities in order to put to good use the skills learned as a girl scout.

The BSP camp consisted of a 5-day survival camp at Lobo, Batangas. In order to meet to accomplish the requirements for Venturer and Eagle scout, the boys had to experience survival and isolation activities in the jungle and at the beach. NSTP students reach out to nearby public schools

For the second consecutive year, the UPIS National Service Training Program (NSTP) has teamed up with the UP College of Education to help promote literacy appreciation to students of public schools near Diliman.

The class, divided into am and pm sessions, visits the San Vicente High School and the Balara Elementary School respectively every Monday.

NSTP students started their field work last January 13. They assist and teach Grade 2 students who are struggling with their literary skills in order to make reading more fun and entertaining for the children.

They also help develop the students’ communication skills by conducting various activities such as magic shows and molding clay.

UPIS opens admissions for AY 2014-2015

The UPIS has recently started giving out guidelines and application forms for those interested in entering UPIS as Kinder (K) students for Academic Year 2014-2015.

The school will also admit ten (10) incoming grade 7 students and a number of students under the Varsity Athletic Admission System (VAAS) Program.

According to Prof. Portia Dimabuyu, head of the Admissions Committee, the Kinder Admissions Test (KAT) or readiness test for K applicants will be held from April 2-4 at the UPIS 7-12 grounds.

VAAS applicants will be required to attend try-outs for their respective sport one month before taking the grade 7 test together with other incoming freshmen on March 8, 2014 also at the UPIS 7-12 Building.

UPIS Library receives new computers

Computers at the UPIS Library finally get an upgrade.

Fifteen new Apple iMac units and a faster internet connection were recently installed for the use of students and faculty members.

The upgrades are part of the UP Administrator’s eUP project which, according to their site, aims to "make a fully connected and integrated UP Information and Communication Technology (ICT) system to support and improve academic and operational excellence".

The project will enable the University, including UPIS, to improve its operational efficiency and to better cater to the needs of its stakeholders. This is one of the major projects of the Office of the Vice President for Development (OVPD) toward UP President Alfredo Pascual’s goals for the university. / with reports from B. Bagnes, K.
