Twenty (20) Grade 10 students from UPIS participated in Cathay Pacific’s (CX) 3rd I Can Fly program last July 24-27.

The airline selected UPIS Batch 2020 students Archie David, Brett Borja, Shane Quitaleg, Christian Sarabia, Denise Dipol, Ellene Arceo, Erika Sasazawa, Eunice Ruivivar, Lander Suguitan, Lois Mesano, Mark Camanian, Owen Bernos, Trixie Badong, Joy Asuncion, Antonio Aquino IV, Cyñl Tecson, Ezekiel Dionisio, Sophia Loriega, James Rafin, and Aera Dizon to take part in the program’s 3rd installment. CX has handpicked students from UPIS ever since I Can Fly’s Philippine launch in 2015.

The program aims to promote enthusiasm for aviation through an introduction to the industry’s basics while instilling a sense of social service among its youth participants.

The students were given an in depth look at the different departments of CX at its Town Office in Makati City. They also toured various areas of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and Clark International Airport (CIA) terminals. Departments included cargo, wherein handling of CX shipment was observed; and engineering, which taught the various parts of a plane. Students also witnessed how food is handled at MacroAsia Corporation – the preferred caterer of Cathay Pacific.

An outreach proper at the Reception and Study Center for Children (RSCC) in Quezon City capped off the participants’ main activities as part of the program’s effort in community involvement.

Participants officially graduated on July 29 at the Makati Sports Club where the three most participative members of the group - Bernos, Ruivivar, and Sasazawa - were handpicked by Cathay to go on a trip to Hong Kong this coming October. // by Raymund Creencia, Rad Pascual
