Today, a person’s judgment on another can be based off their social media profiles. What one shares on their desired platform can make or break a first impression.

Instagram (IG) is a platform for those who desire to share their photographs, artworks, and designs. With 700 million monthly users, IG could be considered one of the world’s most popular social networking sites. With the amount of possible viewers one might receive, it’s only natural for an avid user to up their game in the IG world.

Of course, everything you post is completely up to you but social media can also be a way to express yourself to your friends, family, and followers. An IG feed can be the perfect place for that and having a nice one can garner more followers, if that’s your goal. But if you just want to make your feed game strong for the artsy sake of IG, here’s how.

Plan out what you want your feed to look like.

You may want to have a white and minimalist theme, a dark theme, or a pastel theme. It’s completely up to you on what color palette or theme you’re going for. Decide on the content you want to share for everyone to see and go from there.

You could choose to just put one filter from the VSCO app or use the same preset for everything to be uniform. Not all photos look good in just one setting so challenge your post-processing skills! To make sure everything is absolutely the way you want it to look, download Mosaico to layout your feed before you put your photos up.

It’s always good to plan what goes on your feed because this is the first thing your followers (or even potential followers) see whenever they go to your account. That one look could be all they need to decide whether your account is yay or nay for them.

Take good photos.

Phone cameras nowadays have great quality, but those who really want to amp up their Instagram game take photos with a professional camera.

Frame what you want to capture and create good composition by taking a moment to look before positioning your camera. When it’s time to use your lenses, you can use the grid feature present in most cameras. If you’re taking photos of something moving, use burst mode. As cliché as it sounds, capture the moment! You never really know when you’ll see a beautiful sunset or a magnificent view again!

Another tip is to try using natural light as much as possible when you’re capturing portraits because no matter how much you edit the brightness on a photo-editing software or app, it still won’t turn out as well-lit. Natural lighting gives better results for most pictures and it seems more genuine in the eyes of others. You also don’t have to put too many filters or layers of editing on it because it already looks good raw.

Think before you post.

Don’t forget to come up with a caption that matches the photo. It’s usually the punny ones that get a lot of attention. Put hashtags if you want to achieve more likes and views, but don’t put too much. Remember to use hashtags with relevance.

We also need to be careful of what we post on social media. One wrong post could lead to bad things. Let’s be sensitive and mindful of the content that we want the world to see.

With these tips at hand, there’ll be no doubt that your IG game will be stronger than ever. Time for you to go out, capture the moment, and share them on the ‘gram! //by Paola Pagulayan
