2014-2015 Academic Calendar still not final

UPIS is still waiting for the University Administration’s final decision on whether classes are to start on June or August 2014.

Dr. Ronaldo San Jose, UPIS Principal, announced last March 28 that there will be no shift in calendar for all UP Basic Education units in accordance to the constitutional law that basic education starts in June of every academic year.

However, after deliberation with the UP College of Education's (CEd) Student Teaching Committee, it has been found that the basic education school calendar could start between the first week of June until the last week of August.

For this reason, Dr. Rosario Alonzo, Dean of the College of Education, sent an appeal to the University Administration requesting that UPIS follows the shift in the academic calendar and starts its classes in August. The College of Education thinks that it would be more fitting that UPIS moves the start of classes in step with the college since the school serves as its laboratory school.

Whether classes start in June or August, the UPIS administration is ready for the changes.

"Either way, we’re ready, we have academic calendars for both prepared,” assured Prof. Roselle Velasquez, Assistant Principal for Academic Programs. / by Jemuel Aberin, Anthony Dacoco, Angelique Liwag
