Starting this academic year 2012-2013, the UPIS K-12 curriculum will be implemented for incoming Kinder, Grade 3, and Grade 7 students. This curriculum has a different framework from the Department of Education’s (DepEd).

The UPIS K-12 curriculum offers a Tracking System which is composed of three tracks—the Applied Sciences track which concentrates on the fields of Mathematics and Science; the Humanities and Social Sciences track for non-science specialists who prefer hands-on work and physiological activities; and the Business and Entrepreneur track for students who want to develop their business management skills.

The tracking system involves grouping together students according to their interests and overall school performance from Grades 7-10. They will be in their respective tracks starting Grade 11 and will do hands-on work, in and off campus at Grade 12.

After taking these courses and after graduating high school, students can either choose to work or to continue studying in college. However, students who belong to the top 10%-15% at the end of Grade 10 may opt to skip the tracking system and go straight to college. ● by Benjo Hernandez & Christian Boro
