Ground-breaking ceremonies were held to officially start the construction of the U.P. Town Center at the UP Integrated School last June 18.

The ceremony was held at the UPIS basketball court and was attended by the officials from both the University of the Philippines and the Ayala Land Corporation.

UPIS administrators, Prof. Ronaldo San Jose, Principal, and Prof. Nancy T. Flor, Assistant Principal for Administration, were also present in the ceremony.

The school building will remain untouched until next semester when UPIS is expected to move to the new building being constructed at the Narra Residence Hall lot. The construction of this new 7-10 building and the renovation of the 3-6 and K-2 buildings began in December 2011 and May 2012, respectively. Both projects are expected to be finished sometime between September-January 2012.

The Town Center is very similar to the U.P. Ayala Technohub and will include restaurants, shops, bookstores, an amphitheater, and a university library, among others. Its construction is expected to start after all the UPIS buildings are finished. The 3-billion peso project aims to complete development in late 2013. ● by Aliyah Rojo, Ada Bayobay, & Benjo Hernandez, with reports from James Borja & Christian Boro
